Tetracycline labelling methods of measuring the growth of bones in the rat.

چکیده
The observation of Milch and his associates in 1957 that tetracycline becomes localised in areas of new bone formation has been confirmed on many occasions (Milch, Rail and Tobie 1958: Frost, Villanueva and Roth 1960; Harris 1960; Muzii 1961), and in 1960 Harris suggested that tetracycline might be suitable for use as a marker whereby the rate of bone formation could be measured. Since then a number of workers have studied the growth of compact lamellar bone by tetracycline labelling methods (Frost 1961, 1963; Harris, Jackson and Jowsey 1962; Urist, Zaccalini, MacDonald and Skoog 1962). Difficulties, however, arise in the interpretation of any measurements made on compact lamellar bone. Osteoblastic activity is irregular in such bones and varies from one part ofthe bone to another, so that a large number of serial sections have to be examined to obtain a true picture of the amount of osteoblastic activity in the bone. This report is concerned with the use of tetracycline labelling in bones which grow in a relatively simple way such as the tibia ofthe rat. With tetracycline labelling, the normal growth pattern of this bone both in length and in width has been determined and compared with radiological methods.

Evaluating suppression of PGE2, PAF, and histamine synthesis and histopathological changes of bones in the membrane surrounding particulate polymethylmethacrylate in the rat tibia
Abstract Introduction: Inflammation and wear debris may be responsible for bone lysis and subsequent lost in aseptic arthroplasty. Prostaglandin E2, platelet activating factor, and histamine are important mediators of inflammatory cells. We studied histopathological changes of cement-bone interface after using specific antagonists of these mediators. Methods: Left and right tibiae...

Background and Aim: It has been shown that anaerobic and capnophilic bacteria play an important role in implant failure and loss. The present study is an in vitro research aimed to investigate the antibiotic resistance of Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomi-tans (Aa) and Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg) in peri-implantitis lesions of Iranian pa-tients and to find laboratory efficiency of some antibi...
متن کاملThe Effects of Morphine on Tissue Structure of the Growth Plate in Male Rats
Objective(s) Studies have shown that morphine, in addition to its analgesic properties, has several effects on cell proliferation and apoptosis. There is also evidence that opioid receptors are present on chondrocytes. Our main objective in the present study was to investigate the effects of morphine on rat femur growth cartilage. Materials and Methods This research was carried out on 18 4-we...

Background: Bone is a hard and dynamic tissue, which continually undergoes remodeling process. Longitudinal growth of bone is mediated by growth plate that is a cartilage structure at the end of long bones. During puberty, along with the closure (ossification) of growth plate, the longitudinal growth of bone will stop. Diazinon is one of the widely used organophosphorus pesticides that have bee...
متن کاملIdentification and characterization of somatostatin receptors in neonatal rat long bones.
Somatostatin (somatotropin release inhibiting factor; SRIF) has widespread functions as a modulator of neural activity as well as of endocrine and exocrine secretion. In the present paper, the binding characteristics of somatostatin receptors have been investigated in rat long bones using the stable analogue, 125I-SDZ 204-090, as a ligand. Binding studies revealed the presence of a single class...
